PRAYER

PRAYER is our intimate communication with God that results in ACTION—either by God, by us, or both
PROMISE: God always answers prayer! He always answers with one of three answers:
YES, NO, or NOT NOW.

A GUIDE TO PRAYER: the A.C.T.S. prayer.

A.—adoration

C.—confession

T.—thanksgiving

S.—supplication

The A.C.T.S prayer is one way to pray and a good guide for those who are new believers or for those who, like me, need a guide to help keep my thoughts on track:

A.—Adoration is us praising God for Who He is: All powerful, All knowing, Eternal, Everywhere, Unchanging, Holy, All loving, and the list goes on.

Psalm 63:4 I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.

C.—Confession is us confessing to God that we are not God, we are not holy, and we have disobeyed and displeased God with what we thought, what we have said, what we have done, and what we have left undone.

John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

T.—Thanksgiving is us thanking God for what He has done for us and those we love: provision of food, housing, transportation, and clothing; maintaining our health or restoring our health; and for answered prayer.

Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

S.—Supplication is us praying for others: friends, family, neighbors, our leaders, missionaries, the lost, the saved, and other specific requests.

1 Timothy 2:1-3 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior
